1st blog post in forever! Man, it felt so good to see the admin dashboard on my screen again.
Well – the reason I’ve been so absent these past few months is the same reason I was this time last year . . . we moved. . . . (again).
We’re almost positive the ringing in our ears is caused by the screeching halt of our ‘moving’ gears. We’re crazy spent.
I so miss the beauty and the bigness of those 5 acres. It was a gorgeous piece of land. While I don’t want to get into everything on a public forum, I’ll share the more personal reasons we decided to head back to ATX. It wasn’t financial (renting in Austin’s a bit more expensive than owning in a county over), and it wasn’t that we didn’t like homesteading – we were mostly dabbling, but I found I did enjoy it.

Before I thought about making this a series, I was just writing a post wrap-up post on our past year in Austin when it occurred to me that I should probably start off by explaining *why* we chose to move here.
Because, I mean . . . it’s Texas.

On Becoming a Homesteader
I was standing at the library’s front desk, applying for a card and waiting to checkout books for Autumn and Nate. I turned and saw Nate strolling towards me (Autumn under one arm, facing outward with legs dangling) with that familiar slight-smile on his face: o boy, what’s he up to?
“I got this book for you. I think you’ll like it.” Says the man who more often than not worries he doesn’t know what I really like and that I’ll just say “thank you” for so I won’t hurt his feelings.
I read the title. The Dirty Life? Hmmm. . . .
I open to the inserts. Now I’m the one smiling.
Wait what?! Can this really be happening?!

I’m writing this with a 15lb Fall Baby asleep across my lap and HGTV paused on our projector. I cannot believe that we’re moving across the country (North to South, at least) in exactly 49 days.
1500 miles are about to separate me from my North East Ohio security blanket. 49 days away from embarking on a dream that started not even a year into our 4-year marriage.
2 college graduations and a baby later, it’s finally happening. Well, Part 1 of 5, anyway.
Some think we’re foolish.
Others might say “crazy”.
Most are just wondering how it’ll all turn out.
And a few think it’s amazing. They’re the ones rooting for us. Praying on our behalf as we seek a drastically different life: centered on His Kingdom and righteousness.
I’m excited.
I’m terrified.
I can’t wait to get started.
(Well, minus getting back to packing).
Let’s do this.
